Cost and Availability
In the charts that follow you will see the cost for each item and its availability in Safe Haven. Availability is listed as a percentage, so simply roll a d100 to find out if the item you want is available at that price.
If the item is not available, or if you want to try and get it a bit cheaper (before haggling!) then you can adjust the cost and availability by equal amounts. For example, if you are trying to save 10% on the price, then the availability of the item in question drops by 10% as well. Similarly if you want to increase the availability of an item, the cost will increase too!
Safe Haven has a good mix of low and high tech equipment and can be considered an average place to buy things from. However, it is not the only place in the world of Shapers and the GM can choose to adjust prices and availability according to market forces at play in the local area. In this instance, as the availability goes up, the cost comes down and as availability goes down, the cost goes up.
The GM can of course override the price or availability of the game as befits the story and enjoyment of the players.
Haggling
In some cases characters can try to influence the price they pay for an item by haggling with the seller. To do that they must match their Social Agility + Persuasion against the seller’s Social Agility + Willpower. The initial TN is Average 50.
Passing the roll reduces the price of the item by 10%. If the character fails the roll by 30 or more points, the seller will refuse to sell to the character.
Money
In Shapers there are four types of coin commonly used. Copper Bits, Silver Marks, Gold Sovereigns and Portal Pieces.
- Copper Bits (CBs) – The lowest form of currency and therefore very common.
- Silver Marks (SMs) are the next denomination. There are 10 CBs to every SM.
- Gold Sovereigns (GSs) aren’t as common, but certainly not out of reach of many. There are 10 SMs to every GS.
- Portal Pieces (PPs) are the highest value coin available. There are 10,000 GSs to every PP. Portal Pieces are made from solidified Shaper Energy and as well as being rare, they display unique properties that are highly sought after by scientists and those sensitive to Shaper Energy.
People in Safe Haven and elsewhere have adopted the $ symbol to denote Gold Sovereigns and the ¢ symbol to denote Copper Bits. Silver Marks and Portal Pieces are not explicitly referred to in the prices given, instead their ¢ or $ value is used instead. For example 5 Silver Marks would be written as 50¢ and 1 Portal Piece would be written as $10,000
The $ and ¢ values are separated by a period, with the $ preceding the number. ¢ is only used for values lower than $1.
Copper Bits, Silver Marks and Gold Sovereigns are almost always available when making transactions. However, Portal Pieces are much harder to come by. Use the chart below to find out if there are any for sale in Safe Haven.
Name | Cost | Availability |
---|---|---|
Portal Piece | $10,000 | 10% |
